The Dukan Diet and Hydrogen Water

Although it was first published in France in 2000, the Dukan Diet’s ‘big moment’ arrived courtesy of the Middleton women – Kate and mom Carole – as they famously used the weight loss method to drop several dress sizes between them in preparation for Kate’s wedding to Prince William back in 2011.

Since then it’s proved popular with numerous celebrities whose endorsement has helped to propel the Dukan Diet to fame. Is it for you? Take a look and decide!

What is The Dukan Diet?

If you like a little go-your-own-way fluidity with your diet, then keep walking, the Dukan is not for you. In fact, the word that best describes the Dukan Diet is ‘prescriptive.’

It’s a phased eating plan, with a choice of 72 – 100 foods as you move through the diet. Through all the phases – Attack, Cruise, Consolidation and Stabilization – carbs are given fairly short shrift, even fruit and veggie ones in the ‘Attack’ phase.

What can I eat on the Dukan Diet?

In the Attack and Cruise phases, lots of protein. No lentils, beans or nuts are permitted, but pretty much unlimited amounts of lean red meat, chicken, fish and seafood, along with fat-free dairy and eggs are all good.

The Dukan Diet isn’t terrible vegetarian or vegan-friendly, but a restricted list of low carb vegetables are allowed, along with tofu. In the latter two phases, more starchy vegetables –for example, carrots and sweet potatoes – can be re-introduced. Oh, and 1.5 – 3 tablespoons of oat bran every day, depending on which phase of the diet you’re on.

How many carbs can I have per day on The Dukan Diet?

By and large, no carb or calorie counting is required, provided that you follow (the strict) rules. Protein is satiating – the Dukan Diet works by making sure that you never need to go hungry.

What do doctors and experts say about The Dukan Diet?

Some doctors subscribe to the view that any high protein diets can contribute to impaired kidney function in existing cases of kidney disease.

If you plan to follow the Dukan Diet and virtually cut out food groups from your life for an extended period of time, then seek the approval of your doctor first.

Minor side effects include bad breath and constipation.

What type of water or beverages are best to drink on The Dukan Diet?

Water, and lots of it!

To stay healthy and maximize results, aim to drink 2 liters of water every day while following the Dukan Diet. Apart from staying healthy and hydrated, just drinking water every day can help you to lose weight!

What role does Hydrogen Water play in The Dukan Diet?

Switching to a strict diet regimen can make you feel lethargic while your body adapts to eating less food and fewer food groups. Drinking hydrogen water from a water ionizer can increase your energy and help you to feel and look fabulous.

The other simple fact is that alkaline, ionized hydrogen water tastes better than any other type of water you can buy, which makes it super-easy to drink enough of it!
